Human occupation

The human establishment in the massif of Sant Llorenç del Munt is known since prehistory. Throughout time, remains have been accumulated that testify to the occupations of different historical periods.
The period that has left a deeper footprint is the High Middle Ages, when most of the inhabited areas that make up the current towns and cities began to form in the vicinity of the massif.
The most remarkable of this time are the Romanesque churches and, especially, the monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt, built on the highest peak of La Mola.
The peasantry, formerly spread throughout the massif, today is residual but heir to the traditions and culture that gave it splendor.

The Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt and l'Obac is part of the network of protected natural areas, promoted and managed by the Diputación de Barcelona, which form a green ring that surrounds the most heavily urbanized sectors of the country. The landscape, biological and cultural interest of the massif of Sant Llorenç del Munt and the Sierra del Obac justifies the creation of a protected area.
The natural park is a platform for the promotion of a rational use of the territory that makes possible the orderly use of resources. At the same time, the park responds to the demand for equipment and facilities for leisure and pedagogical activity in the natural environment.
